I'm all about the food costs at the moment. Dining out and over stocking were issues. So...not dining out and eating mostly from existing stock are the obvious actions.
I started the year, obviously, at home. Here's what I had and what it cost:
Breakfast: Blueberry pancake, coffee and water.
Flour, coffee and water were free. Coffee found in the back of the closet at work and expired in little foil baggies. It's not HORRIBLE but not great. I'm alternating it with better stuff bought on deep discount.
Blueberries from "you pick" place and stored in vinegar (resulting really good blueberry vinegar and tangy berries) about 10cents
Cinnamon and nutmeg, 2cents
Coconut oil for the pan: 1 cent
2 eggs: 50cents
TOTAL: 63cents
Lunch: Ate an early dinner after a late breakfast so no lunch.
TOTAL: 0cents
Supper: Salmon and rice stovetop casserole.
Salmon: a home canned jar of kokanee from a friend so...free.
Garlic from the community garden for helping: free
Pepper: 1cent
Spice mix from christmas gift (thanks Chris and Pat!!): free
Saffron...yep...saffron...gift (thanks again Chris and Pat!!!): free
Salt: 1cent
Vinegar: 1 cent
Dried mushrooms, gift: free
Dried Carrots, gift: free
TOTAL: 3cents
GRAND TOTAL for some pretty amazing food: 66cents.
Nice.
