Made with whatever synthetics they use now and now mysterious recycled materials. All I know is I want them to last so I can wear them for as long as I can, but no. They start pilling so quickly and look ratty in no time.

No, I haven't yet searched for sources that sell higher quality clothing made of natural materials that will last a long time. I do try to purchase clothing secondhand, and mend items to get more wear out of them. I try to use old cotton t-shirts, socks, and towels for rags. I was happy when my village offered the collection of textiles/clothing/shoes/pillows for re-using or recycling, depending on the condition. But now I wonder where it actually ends up. Is it made into carpet padding, or does it end up in an illegal landfill in Chile? I'll try to research this. And in the meantime, reduce the amount of clothing and shoes I really need. I work a hybrid schedule with fewer days in-office, and the dress code is such that I need very few formal business clothes. I'm happy to not have to purchase as many clothes, though I admit I sometimes fall into overbuying, feeling justified because it's secondhand and inexpensive. And I do like being able to go a while before running out of clean clothing... Need a new mindset.

LauraAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8405612832065408124.post-85848166360128794632023-07-11T09:31:20.742-07:002023-07-11T09:31:20.742-07:00I stuck with the GOOD baker. That's ...Congrats to Juanita on the milestone! That's really great!

My vehicle is a 2016 purchased in 2018 after my beloved 2008 became unreliable. I'd like to keep it for as long as I can, and I don't really need anything fancy. Though I do like heated seats! And the safety features are nice to have. But all the technology really makes the new/newish cars so expensive to own and repair. Sad that no one can really do the repairs/maintenance themselves these days. Anyway, I'm partnered with a "car guy" so eventually he'll bug me about replacing (and probably upgrading, because - why not?) Yes, our spending philosophies are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

So for now, I'll keep this car as long as I can, and my spending now and in retirement will obviously have to cover the cost of a replacement vehicle. Or vehicles.

L. THE. GADGETS. Gadgets for everything -- dispensing toothpaste onto a toothbrush (why squeeze a tube with your hands when a cute little plastic kitten can "spit" it out onto your brush). Gadgets you put into your refrigerator and rinsing bowls to sanitize foods. Gadgets to spit soap into your hands (Mooo!).

And sometimes, these little teeny, tiny washing machines that might hold about 6 pairs of socks. These washing machines are small, plastic, and look like they run on AA batteries. They usually just drain into a shower or tub. I don't know if this link will work in a comment, but you can copy it. The little washing machine is at about the 50-second mark. Maybe you can fulfill your dream of having a wee washing machine for just your yoga pants at a fraction of the cost :)

https://youtu.be/ZNlCbGwybkg?t=50Angela Gulickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07464832739060583454noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8405612832065408124.post-27528545018368285222022-05-04T11:28:48.713-07:002022-05-04T11:28:48.713-07:00RIGHT! it's like you're chewing apple for...RIGHT! it's like you're chewing apple forever. The chai tea lattes that one buys from coffee shops are made with a chai syrup concentrate and are too sweet (for me). So I very rarely buy anything from a coffee shop. My go-to is chai tea bags from Trader Joe's. I may someday make my own chai concentrate from my own spices, but I'm not one for having to keep tweaking recipes to get it just right. But it would certainly be more thrifty, and I'd eventually get to something I like. I also enjoy a hearty Irish Breakfast tea. Always looking to try something new in some flavored black teas, just for fun. Mostly tea bags, but sometimes loose tea that I prepare in a French press (purchased used), in tea filter bags, or just brewed loose and strained using one of a couple of fancy tea strainers I was gifted with many years ago.

L.
